Competitions at Stage One Associates

We handle the logistics. They deliver the magic.

Competitions are an exciting part of the Stage One journey. They give students the opportunity to grow, challenge themselves, and shine on stage at some of the UK’s leading events. Below you will find everything you need to know about taking part—commitment, logistics, safeguarding, and approximate costs.

Competitions We Attend

Each season we enter a selection of well-established, reputable competitions including (but not limited to):

  • XCITE

  • Chance2Dance

  • Supreme Dance

  • And many more…

Where events run over two days, performers may be expected to perform over both days depending on the category or multi categories they are entered for. Final schedules are confirmed by the competition organisers.

What It Means to Compete

Competing is inspiring, challenging, and highly rewarding — but it also requires commitment from both students and families as it involves time, effort and financial investment.

Dedication & Discipline

Students are expected to:

  • Stay focused and consistent throughout rehearsals

  • Work as a team, paying attention to detail

Attendance & Commitment

To ensure performers are confident and stage-ready, full attendance at all rehearsals is essential.
Consistency is vital for group cohesion and performance quality.

Rehearsals

To ensure routines are polished and performance-ready, extra rehearsals will be scheduled in addition to weekly classes. These may take place:

  • After mid-week classes

  • Friday evenings at our Loughton studio

  • Saturday afternoons

Solo, duo, and trio entries will require separate private sessions.

A full rehearsal timetable will be issued once entries are confirmed.

Costumes

Costumes are required for each competition routine. Where possible, we use existing or easy-to-source items (e.g., black parachute trousers, Nike Dunks or similar).
Additional or bespoke costumes may be required depending on choreography and theme.

Approximate Costs

With all competitions there will be various costs involved, including extra rehearsals, comp participation fees, administrative costs, tickets and costumes.

Below is a guide to typical competition-related costs.

Figures may vary depending on the event and the number of students participating.

Approx Competition Entry Fees

  • Solo: £25–£35 per person

  • Duo/Trio: £15–£25 per person

  • Small Group (4–9 dancers): £10–£15 per person

  • Large Group: £10–£15 per person

Additional Costs

  • Teacher & Admin Fees: £10–£20 per student, covering teacher supervision, administration and organisation

  • Tickets: £12–£35

  • Extra Rehearsals: £10–£20 per session

  • Costumes: Variable

We always aim to be transparent and will confirm expected fees before finalising entries.

Support from Parents & Guardians

Families play an important role in making competitions successful.  Parents can support by:

  • Ensuring full rehearsal attendance

  • Encouraging positive preparation and commitment

  • Complying with safeguarding requirements if attending (DBS + chaperone licence)

  • Providing timely confirmation and communication

Our priority is to provide a safe, structured, and inspiring environment for every performer.

Parent Requirements & Safeguarding

Safeguarding is at the core of everything we do. All parents attending competitions backstage must be:

  • DBS checked

  • Licensed chaperones where applicable

These measures ensure every adult supervising or accompanying children is fully vetted and permitted to chaperone under local authority regulations.

Please note:

  • DBS checks have a small fee, and the DBS Update Service allows free annual renewal.

  • Some boroughs charge for chaperone licences, valid for 1 to 2 years.

Costs vary depending on the local authority; guidance is available if needed.

Sponsorship Opportunities

We welcome sponsorship to help support costumes, extra training, professional coaching and other competition needs.

If you know an individual or company who may be interested in sponsoring our performers, please contact us.
